Joseph Frost holds an MFA in Script and Screenwriting from Regent University. He is an actor and director, was a performing member and artistic director of the SlapHappy! Improvisational Comedy Troupe, was the coordinator of Crowded House Theatre Group, and was a member of the PortFolio Awards review committee for Hampton Roads, Virginia. 

Joseph is currently the Chair of Theatre at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he resides with his wife, Shannon, and their children, Nina and Darby.  He is a member of Christians in Theatre Arts (CITA) and the Dramatists Guild of America.  Joseph is a Board Member of the Fondren Theatre Workshop (Jackson, Miss.) and is the founding artistic director of the floodlight theatre company.

Compact Plays

The Great Play - 2 characters find themselves on stage, and try to discover what they need to do to make the play they are in into a "Great Play."
2 actors (non-gender specific), 45 minutes.
          * winner of the 2000 Regent University One Act Competition
          ** nominated for PortFolio Award - Best Writing of a new play 2001

DisEase - A woman suffering from a mysterious deadly illness and the stranger in her room.
1 woman, 1 man.  Approx 20 minutes.

The Sitting - a painter attempts to educate a young, naive client in both art and life.
1 man, 1 woman.  Approx 30 minutes.

Braids - A drama about the bonds of mothers and daughters dealing with loss, abandonment, identity, and responsibility.
3 women.  Approx 40 minutes.

The Attic - A newly married couple decides what is to be kept in their new attic together and what must be cast aside.
1 woman, 1 man.  Approx 20 minutes.
          * Act 1 of The Memory Trilogy.

Anya - A woman discovers the remembrance of a young man whom she lost in a war.  The keepsake reveals new aspects to her relationship with her husband.
1 woman, 2 men.  Approx 35 minutes.
          * Act 2 of The Memory Trilogy

rememberfall - A pair of siblings attempt to jog the memory of a friend of the family with photos and stories of their history.
1 woman, 2 men.  Approx 30 minutes.
          * Act 3 of The Memory Trilogy

Urns - A short pantomime play.
1 man.  Approx 10 minutes.

A Burden - A man relates to the one source of comfort in his life, his easy chair.  A short monologue play.
1 man.  Approx 10 minutes.

The Silent - A performance piece for solo performer.  
1 actor.  Approx 10 minutes.

Stage Plays

Oz - A young playwright, a disinterested mentor, an actress with family issues, and a desperate actor all explore their relationship to art and each other.
3 men, 1 woman, approximately 2 hours.

Winter Branch - A workaholic father tries to rekindle his troubled family's relationship with an emergency Christmas vacation to the family's abandoned cabin.  But the son with a savior complex has other intentions.
2 men, 2 women.  Approx 2 hours.

The Memory Trilogy - 3 independent plays, (The Attic, Anya, and rememberfall) collected by themes of memory and poetic style.
Plays can be run individually as well.
From 2 men, 1 woman up to 5 men, 3 women.  Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes total.
          **This play was developed with Threads New Works, NYC, Spring 2005.

van Gogh (or The Elusive Field) - The story of Vincent the artist.  His dynamic story as the quintessential starving artist tells only part of the truth - that he is also the quintessential Christian artist.

Anathema - A family's dynamic is challenged by the arrival of a young woman. (play is in process)

Adaptations

A Midsummer Night's Dream - an adaptation of Shakespeare's classic comedy for 5 actors.  Produced by Screaming Idiots Productions, 2000, and Red Clay Theatre, 2005.
3 men, 2 women.  Approx 2 hours.

Ecclesiastes - an adaptation of the Biblical text.  To be produced at Belhaven College, September 2008.
Ensemble cast.  Approx 90 minutes.

ATTIC SCRIPTS

Attic Scripts is a script service of the plays of Joseph Frost.  In the future, this service will be made available to other playwrights who are associated with the floodlight theatre company and the Crowded House Theatre Group.  These plays are works that attempt to engage the ineffable and the spiritual, relating them to the human condition.
